SPAM

Dirk Stöcker
Hello,

the bug-tracker contains a little more than 1300 entries now.

Since entry 800 there are 430 spam entries

http://josm.openstreetmap.de/query?summary=%7Espam&order=id&desc=1

This are 86%.

Can someone please do something against this!

Ciao

The sad thing is that there is supposed to be a captcha plugin installed
but it doesn't work, the trac-admin program claims you can remove
tickets by typing "trac-admin ticket-remove <id>" but if you type a
ticket number it gives you a syntax error, and if you use the trac shell
you get funny python exceptions.

In a nutshell, the whole trac seems to be completely botched and I'll
probably try and reinstall it from scratch.

Which may take a while because I have no clue.

Bye
Frederik

Turned out it wasn't SO bad after all. Spam filtering now enabled, may
need some fine tuning. Feedback welcome and sorry for not acting earlier
on this, I wasn't really aware of the scale of the problem.

Bye
Frederik

No, seems not to work. I added ticket 1307 without any problem.

BTW did you get my direct mail to you this time? If not, some information
about the reason, why my mails get into your filter would be nice.

Spam log says:

"Existing session found" - it let you through because you had done
something else before, something that spammers usually don't do.
(It did catch a few attempted spam entries later in the day.)

I have combed through old tickets and kicked out a few more spam
ones. I wonder whether we should perhaps just remove everything that
is older than one year, closed or not, on the grounds that it is
most likely not relevant any more - thus making the whole thing
a bit more responsive.

Also, any suggestions for other reports than the two existing ones?

Bye
Frederik

Hah. Does not catch asian spam :-)
1308 to 1311

Probably because no link is involved.

Usually thats not a good idea. Sometimes bugs are regressions.

And some of the old still open suggestions are still valid. I already
closed a large bunch of the stuff "no longer relevant".

E.G. I would like to have the "virtual vertices" option: A virtual node in
the middle of two street nodes, which becomes a real node as soon as it is
dragged around. Would make new nodes in a way much easier. Bug 595.

One of the many good ideas that someone should implement ;-)

sadly there were still a lot of spam submissions during the last days.

If no one has the time to improve the situation, then I would volunteer to aid
in administrating the trac installation. I am surely not the most experienced
trac admin, but the installations, that I am maintaining are quite spam-free
after setting up the TracSpamFilter (http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/SpamFilter).

The current situation is ugly and needs a fix, I guess ...
Any ideas?

regards,
Lars

I installed that module about a week ago and while it has caught a lot
of spam in the meantime, it doesn't seem to catch the Japanese and some
others. I was hoping for the Bayes filter to catch on after some time
but seemingly it doesn't... is there anything special one has to
configure about TracSpamFilter? I have

[components]
traccaptcha.expression.expressioncaptcha = enabled
traccaptcha.traccaptchaplugin = enabled
tracspamfilter.* = enabled

- do we need more?

Should we use http://misc.slowchop.com/misc/wiki/TracRecaptchaPlugin?

Bye
Frederik

this configuration should be ok for the ini file.
I guess, you also configured it from within the web interface? Did you mark
a sufficient amount of ham and spam (25 each) for the Bayes filter?

just guessing - I don't know your setup details ...

Lars
